The graduate program in history of architecture of the Middle East Technical University Department of Architecture, in 1999, started to organize a series of graduate symposiums, which is open to doctorate students and researchers who have recently completed their Ph.D. studies. The first symposium was held in November 1999 on the topic ''The Ottoman Spaces / Times / Peoples.'' The second symposium on the topic ''Spaces / Times / Peoples of the Republic" was held in November 2001, and the third one, "Spaces / Times / Peoples of the Ancient Age" was held in June 2003.

The fourth meeting that will be held on December 1-2, 2005 will focus on the theme of "Gender and Sexuality." The symposium aims to bring together and discuss current historical researches on space and the consequent knowledge produced on architectural history that are informed by the relatively new fields of queer theory and masculinity studies as well as the different feminist, post-feminist, gender and woman studies perspectives, on which considerable literature has already been produced.s
